Digital Dictation

Vienna, Austria
– Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) announced today the launch of
SpeechExec Mobile – the mobile dictation software designed for a globalized
business world. Professionals on the road no longer have to wait until they are
back in the office before their dictations are typed up, and neither do they
have to use a laptop to transfer dictations to the secretary. SpeechExec Mobile
now allows computer-free file transfer via SmartPhone, BlackBerry or Personal
Digital Assistant (PDA). This can significantly speed up the availability of
written documents as well as the exchange of information in dictation-intensive
industries such as the legal and insurance sectors. The new software further
strengthens Philips Speech Processing’s position as a provider of one-stop
dictation solutions for professional users.
SpeechExec Mobile has
been designed to make mobile dictation truly convenient while increasing the
flexibility and mobility of its users. The innovative and easy-to-use software
application automatically scans memory cards for dictation files and delivers
them via e-mail or Local Area Network (LAN). E-mail recipients or storage
folders on the LAN can even be predefined on PDAs for automated delivery,
further streamlining the entire dictation workflow.
“SpeechExec Mobile perfectly compliments our dictation portfolio and further
establishes Philips Speech Processing as a provider of complete dictation
solutions – from recording to transcription, in the office and on the road. It
answers the needs of a mobile business community and its demand for simple yet
highly efficient solutions,” said Thomas Brauner, CEO of Philips Speech
Processing. “Computer-free file transfer via SmartPhone, BlackBerry and PDA will
simplify the lives of professionals who depend on digital dictation as a daily
productivity tool.”
SpeechExec Mobile is compatible with
MS Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6.0, the standard operating system for SmartPhones and
PDAs. A version dedicated for the BlackBerry models 8800 and 8100 will be
available in October 2007. The application processes files recorded in the DSS
and DSS Pro format. DSS Pro files not only provide crystal clear sound quality,
despite minimal file size, but they are also encrypted to safeguard against
unauthorized access. Users can track the transmission of files in the outbox
overview and can decide weather to store a copy of the entire file or only save
the delivery date and/or the recipient’s name.
SpeechExec Mobile comes on a 1 GB microSD memory card together with an SD Memory
Card Adapter Kit (miniSD, SD). Installation is quick and easy thanks to the CAB
file format and ActiveSync - the standard installation routine for SmartPhones
and PDAs. For BlackBerry the user simply sets up the application using the
BlackBerry Desktop Manager Application Loader. The software has been designed
for use with Philips Digital Pocket Memos with an exchangeable SD memory card,
such as the Digital Pocket Memo 9600 series.
SpeechExec Mobile compliments an impressive line-up of products and solutions
form Philips Speech Processing that give dictation users both freedom and
independence, including the award-winning DPM 9600 Series and the unique LAN
Docking Station 9160 for PC-free file transfer.

What is Quikscribe wireless digital dictation
Wireless dictation software is the very latest in digital dictation solutions.
Instead of a traditional hand held digital recorder that only offers a
record/play function and then requires connecting to a computer to download
voice files. The new wireless dictation allows many more features as well as
dictation. Sending voice files can be carried out directly from the recorder
without any docking to a computer. You can still dock the recorder if desired
but really there is no need. Depending on the recorder you have the ability to send voice files via
Lan,
WLan, WiFi, Email or
FTP. Also copy and paste from Windows Explore. The dictation features are many
with a basic digital dictation feature plus an advanced, structured or form
dictation choice. Interview recording is also possible that allows a tamper
proof recording. The voice files are the smallest digital dictation files
available in
Australia. Control the functions via buttons or use the on screen commands
offered by the recorder. Wireless headset recording also available as standard
on most models.
Record in the office or when away as a mobile recorder.
No cables, cords, PC required for recording voice files.
The
new
wireless dictation software when loaded onto a Pocket PC recorder with phone
option will allow the fully featured digital dictation plus your
mobile
telephone,
Windows email send and receive
and several Pocket PC functions all in the one unit.
If working away from the office, simply
dictate
and when finished
send highly compressed and encrypted voice file to anywhere
required for typing or listening. All typing
software’s catered for.
One unique features is there is no need to type an
email any more as we offer the ability to press a button and do a voice email
reply to your own office staff,
or client. You
send
them
a
highly compressed
voice dictation
as an email. This alone
will be much faster to communicate. If a reply or authorization is required
for any dictation you have sent,
simply receive the completed documents by email
into the same Wireless Recorder
where ever you may be.
Store any of your standard letters, precedents or recording formats into the
recorder, you can even record answers to some standard questions that can
appear on the screen of the recorder. Basically an “Answer the questions that
appear on the screen prompt”
Set up anyone away from the office but still be in total communication at the
same time
Why buy a simple old digital
recorder when you can have a new all in one recorder.

Things to know
about wireless dictation
To load Wireless dictation
software:
You must have a Pocket PC running Windows
Mobile 2003 (second edition) or Windows Mobile 2005.
Wireless software
does not load onto Smart phones.
To install
the software you will require Active Sync 4 or higher.
The Pocket PC must have a built in microphone, speaker
and touch screen..
Pocket
Outlook needs to be present and configured to send voice files via email.
If your
Pocket PC comes with a wireless network connection you will be able to network
send using this method.
You will
require Windows Mobile 2005 to use a Bluetooth headset (optional)
Dictations
can also be sent when you 'dock' with ActiveSync.
The following information
is to assist you in purchasing the right pocket pc with a phone option.
What is GSM
Global
System for Mobile communication
What is GPRS
General
Packet Radio Service. A GSM data transmission technique that does not set up a
continuous channel from a portable terminal for the transmission and reception
of data, but transmits and receives data in packets. It makes very efficient
use of available radio spectrum
What is EDGE
EDGE Enhanced Data rates
for GSM Evolution is a new
air-interface technology, to offer third-generation data rates for the global
evolution of GSM and TDMA to 3G. EDGE uses 8 Phase Shift Keying Modulation
(8-PSK), rather than normal
GSM Gaussian Minimum Shift Keying (GMSK). This will offer 48 kbits/s per GSM
timeslot.
The catch is that EDGE requires higher radio signal quality than that found in
an average GSM network before higher data throughput can be reached. This
means more base stations (especially indoor) and infrastructure build-out for
established GSM operators that wish to migrate to EDGE
EDGE enables services like multimedia emailing, Web infotainment and video
conferencing to be easily accessible from wireless terminals. EDGE is designed
for migration into existing GSM and TDMA networks, enabling operators to offer
multimedia and other IP-based services at speeds of up to 384 kbits/s
(possibly 473 kbits/s in the future) in wide area networks. An important
attraction of EDGE is the smooth evolution and upgrade of existing network
hardware and software, which can be introduced into an operator's current GSM
or TDMA network in existing frequency bands.
What is WAP
Wireless
Application Protocol (WAP) is an open standard and application environment for
wireless information and telephony services on digital mobile phones specified
by WAP Forum. WAP will be applicable to second and third generation mobile
phones, pagers, two-way radios, smart phones and communicator. WAP is designed
to work with most wireless networks such as CDPD, CDMA IS-95,
GSM900/1800/1900, PDC, PHS, TDMA IS136, FLEX, ReFLEX, iDEN, TETRA, DECT,
DataTAC, Mobitex and 3G systems, and it can be built on any operating system.
What is 3G
3G is the
third-generation mobile phone network and this is billed as a giant leap
forward for mobile phone technology, with more services and features on offer
than ever before. Handsets are becoming portable multimedia messaging and
playback devices that can send and receive email, grab content from the
internet without waiting and have personalised information and entertainment
services delivered right to the hand, the ear and the eye of the user.
What is QUAD band
Quad-band (850/900/1800/1900)
Two frequency bands are used by GSM services
in the US. Two different frequency bands are used by GSM services elsewhere
in the world.
Ideally, you'd want a phone that can work on
all four bands - commonly called a quad-band phone.
If choosing a tri-band phone as a second best
choice, be careful which three bands your phone has. Some bands are more
useful than others, depending on where you travel.
Which frequencies do you need when travelling
internationally?
That depends on the countries you plan to
visit.
Refer to the table below to get a feeling for
which countries use which frequency bands. For a more expanded set of
information, complete with network coverage maps, refer to the official
GSM Association's website.
As the table suggests, 900 MHz is the most
common band used internationally. 1800 MHz will give you expanded coverage in
countries that also have 900 MHz. And some countries only have 1900 MHz
rather than 900 or 1800 MHz.
Note that countries with both 900 and 1800
MHz service generally provide better coverage in the 900 MHz band than in the
1800 MHz band.
CDMA
- EDVO phones
CDMA
and External Antennas
(705kb, 4 pages, PDF format)
As CDMA is newer than GSM, it may not be
available in some parts of the world. However, as the signal can be
transmitted over greater distances, it may give reception in more remote or
rural areas where a GSM phone does not pick up a signal. With
the Telstra Mobile CDMA network you can utilise
packet data access via our 1XRTT and EVDO network. This lets you connect to a
wide range of online services via the Internet and other applications such as
picture messaging, both affordably and quickly. Great for
anyone on the move and needing a mobile solution for business or personal.
Look at the
coverage maps
for more detailed information on current coverage. Coupled with our Telstra
Mobile Satellite service, means we have Australia covered.
Bluetooth headsets
If you want to use a Bluetooth Headset /
Microphone for dictation, your Pocket PC needs to be running Windows Mobile
2005 as previous version of Microsoft Mobile do not support Bluetooth / Sound
Card compatibility. Other Bluetooth devices include
wireless keyboards and wireless mice.
Memory or storage of voice files
If your Pocket PC does not offer the ability
to add additional memory, you will be limited as to how much you can store.
From a storage perspective, as an example using a 1G SD card, you can record
over 170 hours which is more than 7 days continuous recording time, assuming
your recording format is 8KHz with real-time compression.
Adjusting recording level.
To record audio onto your Pocket PC, your
device needs to support either a built-in microphone or the ability to plug in
an external wired microphone. You must also enable the Microphone AGC, as by
default, this is not enable, which means the Pocket Recorder will record
correctly, as your audio input level will be very low. To enable it, the
following steps are required:
Click on the Start / Settings /
System tab and then the Microphone AGC icon. When this is done,
a screen similar to the one below will appear. If you then select Enable
and then OK, you will find that your Pocket Recorder will record
with a very good input level.
Note:
Some
Pocket PC's do not support Microphone AGC. Why this is the case, we do not
know. For whatever reason, the manufacturer has decided not to install this
component as part of the standard operating system. Needless to say, before
purchasing a Pocket PC, make sure your device supports this option or you will
not be able to record properly. If you have such a device, contact the
manufacturer of your device and see if there is a patch you can download to
enable this option.
Windows Mobile 2003 Pocket
PC Phone edition.
Windows Mobile 2003
Software - NEW
The new
Windows Mobile™ 2003 software for Pocket PC Phone Edition now helps maintain
your data connections so you can easily continue to instant message,
download e-mail or browse the Web after being interrupted by a call or after
accidentally turning off your device.
For GSM
phones with GPRS data connections, new 'suspend/resume' functionality
instantly resumes your GPRS data connection after a voice call has ended or
once the device is turned back on. For CDMA users, 'dormant' mode performs a
similar function. The result for both is that you can now transition more
seamlessly between voice and data connectivity, making it easier to access
key data.

Windows Media Player 9
Series
Windows Mobile 5 edition
Windows Mobile 5 sports many new features and enhancements making it a very
worthwhile upgrade. Perhaps the most important feature that everyone will
love- from PDA novices to hardcore PDA devotees, is persistent memory. Your
data won't be lost if the battery runs completely dry-- a new concept for
Pocket PCs. This memory architecture more closely resembles PCs: RAM is used
for running programs and not for storage. Your data and all OS files are
stored in Flash ROM which doesn't require power to preserve its contents. And
just like your computer (and the Palm LifeDrive), Windows Mobile devices can
use hard drives as a storage medium. This means we could see a Pocket PC with
an embedded MicroDrive (the MicroDrive is a tiny hard drive and it's currently
used in the LifeDrive as well as hard disk based MP3 players like the Apple
iPod and portable video players). It's less likely we'll see a hard drive in a
smartphone since the current trend is to miniaturize phones as much as
possible and because hard drives use more power.

Show dates and
Demonstrations
We offer a choice of two
"in your office" demonstrations styles. Either organise a date that suits you
or where applicable request a rolling demonstration. Simply book a day and
time that suits for our visit and we bring all relevant digital dictation
software and hardware products we supply. The rolling demo works in such a
way, we have you set us up in one of your office rooms, you simply inform all
your relevant staff we will be sitting and waiting to demonstrate the very
latest digital dictation systems we have available. This means no time
restraints are placed on your staff. Author and typist can come and go at
their own pace.
